Indian ports to Jebel Ali and others
Jebel Ali (UN/LOCODE AEJEA) in Dubai handles most container cargo. Other UAE ports, such as Khalifa Port in Abu Dhabi and ports in Sharjah, can also be used depending on the consignee. From Nhava Sheva the sea transit to Jebel Ali is typically around one to two weeks on a direct service, longer if transshipped.
Documents for the UAE
- Commercial invoice and packing list, with a clear cargo description and HS code.
- Bill of lading (sea) or air waybill (air).
- Certificate of origin if the buyer wants to claim preferential duty under the India-UAE trade agreement (CEPA); eligibility depends on the product and origin rules, so confirm with your buyer.
- Some buyers ask for the invoice or certificate of origin to be attested. Please check with your consignee early, because attestation takes time.
Import clearance
The consignee clears the goods with UAE customs, usually through a local clearing agent, and pays any duty and VAT that applies. Some goods need a permit or approval before import. We coordinate with the destination agent so that arrival and delivery are planned in advance.
